The Hunger Project

About The Hunger Project

The Hunger Project's mission is to end hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocate for their widespread adoption in countries throughout the world.

Its vision is a world where every woman, man and child leads a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity.

To illustrate what’s possible with an investment of about $100,000 in a single year, a Hunger Project epicenter in Africa on average reaches 14,500 people with integrated and holistic programs in health (including HIV/AIDS prevention), education, adult literacy, nutrition, improved farming and food security, microfinance, water and sanitation, and community mobilization.

Since The Hunger Project began working in these communities, households with clean water access improved from 57% to 87% (an increase of over 50%) and households with access to improved sanitation, beginning at just 7%, grew to 44%, a more than 500% change.
